What is Gestalt ?

"to stay attached to a programme design when the emerging need of the client is calling elsewhere, feeds the needs of the consultant rather than the client." (Sue Congram, 2008)

Gestalt offers an effective way of working with complex systems, for understanding corporate cultures, developing good working relationships, growing professional confidence & authenticity, management and leadership development, project management, team development and for making an impact. In all these areas it adds a rich and imaginative dimension to the way that corporate people go about their work.

For further information on this area we are now providing a free download of the popular booklet ‘Gestalt a Philosophy for Change’, written by Sue Congram and Trevor Bentley.

The psychological field

New developments in Gestalt, and a source of study in Sue’s PhD research include a fuller understanding of the invisible dynamics of relationships, groups, communities and cultures - and how to bring these invisible elements towards more meaningful understanding.

Described as ‘a psychological field’ (like a magnetic field), consultants, leaders and managers learn to become informed by what they notice in the field, their perception of the field, and their awareness of their perception of the field, and how to use that information productively. This approach is different, yet complementary to systems thinking. The language of systems theory provides a useful gateway for articulating ‘field events’ in a way that people can understand.

Sue is an expert in this area. She gives talks on this subject, and teaches the art of Gestalt and ‘field methods’ as a way of working, to managers, leaders, consultants, and coaches, around Europe.
